Update: One dead after car crashes into pole in Norfolk, driver in custody

According to Norfolk police, one person is dead and another person was injured after an accident on E. Va. Beach Blvd. and Ballentine Blvd. Friday night. 

They say at around 8:58 p.m.on Friday, a vehicle was traveling eastbound on Virginia Beach Boulevard when a man lost control of his vehicle and hit a utility pole.

Police say it appeared to be only one vehicle involved. They say the driver tried to run away from the scene, but he was apprehended. 

A male occupant in the car was pronounced dead at scene.

The driver of the vehicle was taken into custody; DUI charges are pending.
