USS Harry S. Truman gets new commanding officer

On Thursday, August 16 at 10:00 a.m. at Naval Station Norfolk, a ceremony will be held for Captain S. Robert Roth who will relieve Captain Dee L. Mewbourne as commanding officer of USS Harry S. Truman.

The Truman completed the largest carrier Docking Planned Incremental Availability (DPIA) July 15, returning to the fleet after 5,191,520 man-hours of maintenance work. Truman recently completed an underway period to conduct carrier qualifications and an ammunition onload.

Truman is currently undergoing operational work-ups in preparation for its next deployment.  

Mewbourne’s next duty assignment will be as Commander, Naval Service Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.
