An American has been arrested in Venezuela.
Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez accused the American of, "having all the appearances of a mercenary".
U.S. state department officials say no responses have been made regarding their requests to have access to the American.
According to Chavez, the man illegally crossed into Venezuela from Colombia last week.
Chavez has repeatedly accused U.S. officials and members of Venezuela's opposition of plotting to destabilize the country's government.
