Newport News, Va. – A woman was raped during the first of two home invasions early Sunday morning on Wickham Ave. in Newport News.

Police say the black man in his mid-20s armed with a handgun initially forced his way into an apartment around 2:20 am and demanded money. They say the man sexually assaulted the female resident and took keys to the victim’s car.

The man then forced the woman and a male occupant of the residence into the common area of the building where he forced his way into a second apartment that was occupied by two women. After taking a purse from the second apartment, the man left, taking the first victim’s car.

The car was recovered about 8:00 A.M. at Jefferson Avenue and 12th Street.

The man is described as 5’8” – 6’ tall, with a short afro. He was wearing a white T-shirt, jeans and sneakers.

All four victims are in their mid and late fifties.
