Virginia Beach police will honor the city's first black police officers.

23 black auxiliary police officers served the Seatack community in 1969.

The police chief says they paved the way for integration and need to be remembered.

NewsChannel 3's Barbara Ciara will host the event honoring more than 30 officers.

It's at 6 p.m. tonight, at the second precinct on Virginia Beach Boulevard. The public is invited.
