FEMA - the Federal Emergency Management Agency - now has teams in the commonwealth to help in the recovery efforts from last month's severe wind storm.

Damage was significant in central and western counties.

FEMA assistance is needed there to help local governments recover some of their debris clean-up and other costs.

More than 60 Virginia counties and cities applied for funding.

Public assistance grants will pay up to 75 percent of some expenses.

FEMA says teams are documenting expenses but local governments may not see reimbursements for several months.
