Coast Guard medevacs woman from cruise ship 210 miles off Oregon Inlet

OREGON INLET, N.C. — The Coast Guard medevaced a 72-year-old woman from a cruise ship approximately 210 miles offshore of Oregon Inlet Monday afternoon.

The crew of the cruise ship Carnival Miracle called the Coast Guard via VHF channel 16 at approximately 10 a.m. reporting the woman was experiencing medical problems.

Coast Guard Sector North Carolina watchstanders consulted with the Coast Guard 5th District duty flight surgeon, who recommended a medevac.

Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City flight launched air crews aboard an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter and a HC-130 Hercules aircraft.

With the Hercules crew providing radio and air cover, the Jayhawk crew hoisted the woman and her husband aboard and took them to Sentara Leigh Hospital in Norfolk, Va.
