Crews are getting ready for Norfolk's first ever street festival.

This evening, parts of Granby Street from Main to Charlotte will be blocked off.

City officials say the goal is to get people downtown to become familiar with the businesses on Granby street and to also voice their opinions about what businesses should make downtown their new home.

Clint Dalton who owns 757 Creative Space, which rents offices to smaller companies, says mixers like this will help grow the downtown area.

He says, "I think people need to get out on the street and wander and see what's here - it's also important for businesses here to get feedback from people saying this is what we want."

And it's not hard to miss the vacant spots along Granby Street. The city hopes the most recent neighbor, Urban Outfitters, will bring more businesses to downtown.

Drivers may park in downtown Norfolk city lots for only $2 today starting at 5 p.m. The block party is from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m.
