A Virginia Beach father and sailor who accidentally shot his son will not go to prison.
Nicholas Pierce pleaded guilty to felony child neglect.
Back in February, his 4-year-old son was shot in the leg and the hip.
Pierce admitted he and his son were trying to leave their Buckhorn Place home.
He said he was 'juggling' his handgun, keys, wallet and trying to give the boy medication.
Pierce was sentenced to 5 years as part of the plea but all of that was suspended.
He cannot have contact with his son until it is cleared by a therapist and he will have to pay the boy`s medical bills.
