TCC’s Portsmouth Campus to hold homeland security exercise Friday

Posted

Tidewater Community College will conduct a homeland security exercise from approximately 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 26, in coordination with the City of Portsmouth and Maryview Medical Center.

Officials say the purpose of the exercise is to test the college’s emergency response plan for coordination with city responders and the hospital. The exercise will include first responders from the City of Portsmouth and Maryview Medical Center.

During this exercise, a number of first responder vehicles will be around the Portsmouth Campus with lights and sirens on. McLean Street, Greenwood Drive, Campus Drive and Freeman Avenue will be among the locations affected.

Classes on the Portsmouth Campus will meet as scheduled, although some classes in Building C on the first floor have been reassigned to other locations on campus. Students should check with their instructors if they have questions about where their class will meet on Friday.

Friday’s exercise will be limited to the Portsmouth Campus. Future exercises will be planned for TCC’s campuses in Chesapeake, Norfolk and Virginia Beach.
