8AM Update: After weakening to a tropical storm overnight, Sandy is back up to hurricane strength with 75 mph winds and is moving North-Northeast at 10 mph. An increase in the storm’s speed is expected tonight and Sunday.
Hurricane force winds extend 100 miles from the center, mainly to the Southwest, and Tropical Storm force winds extend 450 miles from the center of the storm.
The National Hurricane Center is expecting a storm surge of 3-5 feet for the parts of North Carolina under a Tropical Storm Warning, and a surge of 2-4 feet for the rest of North Carolina and Southeast Virginia, including the lower Chesapeake Bay.
