A Virginia Beach man is recovering after being shot by an intruder who broke into his home.
It happened around 2 a.m. Monday, at a home on Old Glory Rd, located in a neighborhood off of Lynnhaven Parkway.
Dakota Boyce says he was asleep on the coach downstairs when he woke up to the sound of a door getting kicked open.
His mom and little sister were asleep upstairs.
“I was worried about my mom and sister. Those two things mean more than anything to me,” said Boyce.
After he woke up, Boyce says he ran into another room where he was shot without warning.
“I just saw a dude go ‘bang, bang, bang,’” Boyce said.
One of the bullets hit him in the leg.
“You got two bones that go through there and it went straight through the middle of `em,” said Boyce.
The other two bullets missed him and went through the side of the house.
Immediately after that, Boyce says the man took off, running out the door.
Boyce says he's doing okay for now, getting around on crutches.
What bothers him, is not knowing who did this.
“The pain don`t really hurt. It’s the fact that I could be hanging out with the person tomorrow and not even know it,” Boyce said.
He believes there was someone else there that night as well because he heard talking after the door was kicked in.
Police don't have a suspect for the shooting at this point.
