ABC Stores Closed on Thanksgiving Day

Richmond, Va. – Virginia Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) stores will be closed Thanksgiving Day.

Most of Virginia ABC’s 339 retail stores will open at 9 a.m. the following day with Black Friday specials. Stores will offer a 25 to 50 percent reduction (or more) on selected items as well as 10 percent off any purchase totaling $50 or more. Early morning specials will remain in effect Nov. 23 until 3 p.m.

Five stores in Williamsburg, Richmond and Northern Virginia will open at 7 a.m. which include Willow Lawn, Richmond; Monticello Avenue, Williamsburg; Sully Plaza, Chantilly; and two Fairfax stores in Fairfax Court and Fair Lakes Shopping Centers.

“ABC encourages Virginians to drink responsibly. As the holiday season approaches, we should be especially mindful of this,” ABC Chairman J. Neal Insley said.

City of Portsmouth — Thanksgiving Holiday Schedule

The City of Portsmouth announces the following schedule for municipal offices for the Thanksgiving Holiday.

All city offices will close at 12 p.m. on Wednesday, November 21st and will be closed Thanksgiving Day and Friday, November 23rd.

Additional Thanksgiving Holiday schedule information:

Trash and Bulk Collections –

There will be no trash and bulk collections on Thursday, which is Thanksgiving Day.

All normal Thursday routes will be collected one day prior on Wednesday, November 21st.

Friday routes will be collected on a normal schedule on Friday, November 23rd.

Portsmouth Public Library –

Wednesday, November 21st – will close at 12 p.m.

Virginia Beach Trash and Recycling Schedule for Thanksgiving

The City’s Public Works Department, Waste Management Division, announces that in celebration of the Thanksgiving holiday, solid waste and recycling collection will not be provided on Thanksgiving Day. Instead, residents who would normally receive City trash and recycling services on Thursday, Nov. 22 will receive service on Saturday, Nov. 24.

Residents who normally receive service on Friday will remain on their regularly scheduled day.

The City Landfill will be closed on Thanksgiving Day and open from 7 a.m. until noon on Friday. Operating hours for Saturday, Nov. 24 are 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

City of Virginia Beach Thanksgiving Holiday & Waste Collection Schedule

Solid waste and recycling collection will not be provided on Thanksgiving Day. Instead, residents who would normally receive City trash and recycling services on Thursday, Nov. 22 will receive service on Saturday, Nov. 24.

The following facilities will close early on Wednesday, Nov. 21 and will be closed Thursday and Friday, Nov. 22 and 23:

• Chesapeake Bay Center at First Landing State Park

• The Virginia Beach Circuit Court, General District Court, Juvenile & Domestic

• Relations Court, the Juvenile Court Service Unit and clerk’s offices (closes at noon)

• Virginia Beach City Public Schools and administrative offices and Union Kempsville Museum. ( Adjusted dismissal schedule)

• Virginia Beach Public Health Department (closes at noon)

The following City of Virginia Beach facilities will be closed Thursday and Friday, Nov. 22 and 23:

• All City of Virginia Beach offices

• All city community recreation centers

• All city parks and park facilities

• Owl Creek Tennis Center

• All city public libraries

• Virginia Beach Convention Center administrative offices

• Virginia Beach Farmers Market administrative office (Some merchants may be open.*)

The following City of Virginia Beach facilities will be closed Thursday, Nov. 22, but will be open for business Friday, Nov. 23, at the following times:

• Adam Thoroughgood House and Francis Land House will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 22, but will be open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 23.

• Lynnhaven House will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 22, but will be open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 23.

• Sandler Center for the Performing Arts – Administrative offices will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and the box office will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

• Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center will be closed Thursday, but resume its normal hours of operation from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 23.

• Virginia Beach Animal Care and Adoption Center will be open from 11 a.m. to
6 p.m.

• Virginia Beach Farmers Market facilities will be closed Thursday, Nov. 22, but will be open for business Friday, Nov. 23.

o *Skipper Farms will be open for business until 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 22 and all day Friday, Nov. 23

o The P.A. County Grill restaurant will be open from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.

o Creekmore’s Place will be open for business

CHESAPEAKE – Chesapeake City government offices, courts, community centers, and public libraries will have modified hours in observance of Thanksgiving. The revised hours are as follows:

There will be no trash or recycling collections on Thursday, November 22. Thursday’s pickup will be collected on Saturday, November 24. Trash and recycling will be collected on Friday, November 23, as usual.

Suffolk Closures:

SUFFOLK, VA – The Suffolk Executive Airport will be closed on Thursday, November 22, 2012, for the Thanksgiving holiday. The Airport will reopen on Friday, November 23, 2012.

In observance of Thanksgiving, Suffolk City offices will be closed at 12 p.m. Wednesday, November 21, 2012. Normal operations will resume Monday, November 26, 2011, at 8:30 a.m. The city observes all state-designated holidays. Thanksgiving is considered a holiday for the Commonwealth of Virginia, and all state offices are closed on these days.

The Suffolk Tourism Visitor Center will be closing at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, November 21 and remain closed Thursday and Friday for the Thanksgiving Holiday. The Visitor Center will reopen at 9 a.m. on Saturday, November 24.

All Suffolk City Libraries close at 12 p.m. on Wednesday, November 21, except for the Chuckatuck Branch, which is closed all day Wednesday. All Library Branches reopen at their normal times on Monday, November 26.

The Suffolk Art Gallery will close at 12 p.m., Wednesday, November 21, and will reopen on Tuesday, November 27 at 10 a.m.

All Suffolk Recreation Centers, including the East Suffolk Recreation Center, will close Wednesday, November 21 at 6 p.m. They will reopen on their normal schedule on Monday, November 26. Suffolk’s four major parks – Lone Star Lakes, Constant’s Wharf, Sleepy Hole, and Bennett’s Creek will remain open during the holiday; however, no park attendant will be on duty.

Trash scheduled for pickup on Thursday, November 22, will be collected on Friday, November 23. Garbage pick-up scheduled for Friday, November 23 will be collected on Saturday, November 24. TFC Recycling will also follow the holiday schedule with the Thursday, November 22 recycling routes being collected on Friday, November 23 and the Friday, November 23 recycling routes being collect on Saturday, November 24. Suffolk Public Works Department reminds you that trash must be placed at curbside no later than 7 a.m. on the day of collection. The Southeastern Public Safety Authority (SPSA) Transfer Station in Suffolk will be closed Thursday, November 22, 2012 and will be open regular hours on Friday, November 23 and Saturday, November 24. The Regional Landfill is closed on Thursday, November 22, 2012, and open from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, November 23, 2012. 

City of Norfolk:

NORFOLK – The City of Norfolk’s government offices, including City Hall, libraries, and recreation centers will be closed on Thursday, November 22 and Friday, November 23, 2012, in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday.

The Commissioner of the Revenue and City Treasurer’s Office, Circuit Court, General District Court and Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court will all close at 12:00 pm Wednesday, November 21, 2012.

All libraries will close at 5:00 pm on Wednesday, November 21, 2012 and reopen for normal business hours on Saturday, November 24, 2012. All recreation centers will reopen for normal operating hours starting on Saturday, November 24, 2012.

There will be no garbage or recycling collection on Thursday, November 22, in observance of Thanksgiving Day. The make-up day for residents who have Thursday collections will occur Saturday, November 24. Refuse and recycling collection of Friday, November 23, 2012 will follow the normal collection schedule.
