Norfolk, Va. – Crews responded to a Norfolk structure fire Thursday morning on Colley Avenue.
Police say at approximately 9:04 a.m. on Thursday, November 29, 2012 Norfolk Fire-Rescue responded to a commercial fire in the 2800 block of Colley Avenue. Units arrived four minutes later and reported black smoke coming from the structure.
Fire crews had to force entry into the building prior to beginning a fire attack. Upon entering the structure, fire crews encountered fire and smoke throughout the building. Additional units forced entry into the adjacent buildings to search and check for fire extension.
Crews confirmed no one was in any of the structures after searching the buildings. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire that started in an electronic repair shop. The fire was under control shortly after crews arrived, officials say.
Fire damage was contained to the electronic repair shop. The Cell Phones R Us store and the Transformed Hair Salon were the two adjacent buildings. Those buildings sustained some smoke damage as a result of the fire in the electronics repair shop.
A City of Norfolk building official will determine how soon the adjacent structures can reopen for business, police tell NewsChannel 3.
The cause of the fire has been determined as combustibles being too close to a heat source.
