Dozens came together and circled around the steps of Southwestern Elementary in Suffolk in support and memory of the 26 who died last week in Newtown, Connecticut in a tragic shooting.
To Curtis Hoggard, who has four kids at Southwestern, the shooting hit close to home.
"I couldn't imagine it happening to one of my kids," says Hoggard.
Prayers were read and candles lit honoring those who passed.
But people were also thankful for the love and strength of the community.
Southwestern Elementary Principal Cheryl Riddick says what happened in Connecticut, though tragic, also serves as a reminder to not take things for granted.
