One dead after police chase ends in crash in Chesapeake

Chesapeake, Va.—A man is dead after a police chase ends in a crash.

The incident started Sunday night with a shooting.

Police say at around 11:30 p.m. on Sunday, they responded to a call about shots fired at a home in the 4300 block of Center Mass Crest in the Western Branch area.

They say the owner of the home knew the suspect and called police and gave them a description.

Police say there were no reported injuries to anyone in the home. 

Officers say they saw the suspect driving in the Volvo Parkway area at around 12:01 a.m. Monday.  They tried to initiate a traffic stop.

They say the suspect failed to stop and a short pursuit began. It ended at Greenbrier Parkway and Crossways Blvd. where the suspect crashed. He died on the scene.

Police have not released any further details about the suspect.

The cause of death and accident are still under investigation.
