Virginia Beach, Va.—According to Virginia Beach police, a suspect was severely injured after allegedly crashing into a pole on Monday night.

They say Virginia Marine Police saw a vehicle going at a high rate of speed westbound on I-264 at 9:30 p.m.

Marine police tried to follow the vehicle and contacted their dispatchers.

They say the suspect got off of the interstate and then got onto Rosemont Road and then Bonney Road.

Marine Police lost sight of the vehicle, but when they continued to travel down Bonney Road, they saw a blown transformer.

They say it appeared as though the driver hit a Dominion Power pole and rolled several times. He was ejected from the vehicle and was found lying next to it.

Police say live power lines landed on several vehicles in the Car Max parking lot causing damage to the cars. Several windows were broken and a few vehicles were hit with flying debris.

The road was closed for several hours from 10 p.m. to around 1 a.m. for the investigation.

The suspect was transported to a local hospital with severe injuries.
