Newport News, Va. – Police say an 18-year-old man has been charged after being accused of stabbing a 41-year-old father in the back during a dispute over his teen daughter Wednesday night near Belgrave and Maldin Lane.

Police arrested 18-year-old Taren Alexander of the 100 block of Beechwood Dr.  in Yorktown. He has now been charged with kidnap/abduction as well as aggravated assault and intimidation.

They say calls came in just before 7 p.m.

When police arrived on the scene, they say they found the victim suffering from a stab wound to his upper left back. He told police Burkett was harassing his 15-year-old daughter.

Police say the victim took out a protective order against Burkett but it had not been served yet.

Officials say the verbal argument turned physical and Burkett stabbed the father in the back after the victim allegedly pulled out a handgun and hit Burkett in the face.

There was a 17-year-old Newport News male who was also in the car who was a willing passenger police say.
