We’ve learned new details about a dementia patient accused of killing his caretaker's friend.

A judge said John Boyd was incompetent to stand trial.

Back in May, police say Boyd shot and killed Lionel Phillips inside a home on Hines Avenue.

Investigators said Boyd suffered from dementia and court records NewsChannel 3 found showed he retired from the Naval Supply Company.

Boyd was charged with first degree murder.
