Norfolk, Va. – Norfolk police are having trouble confirming an alleged abduction attempt happened near Northside Middle School on Tuesday.

The alleged incident involving a 13-year-old girl who attends Northside happened in the 8800 block of Tidewater Drive around 7:45 am.

Three siblings of the alleged victim who attend Ocean Air Elementary School were told of the alleged incident by their mother, and they in turn informed staff at Ocean Air. Ocean Air staff contacted police, who went to Northside Middle School to interview the girl.

Police say the girl told them she was followed by a white van with tinted windows driven by a white man that pulled up next to her and stopped. At the same time a black man walking on the sidewalk tried to grab her by the arm.

The girl said she ran to the intersection of Evans Street where she reported the incident to a school crossing guard and the two men fled. The girl claimed the crossing guard let her wait in her car until her shift ended, then drove the girl to school.

Police interviewed all crossing guards assigned to the area and none reported any such incident. Police were also unable to find any witnesses in the area and when they brought the girl back to the location were unable to resolve ‘substantial inconsistencies’ in her story.
