Chesapeake Public Schools consider cutting middle school sports, jobs due to budget

Chesapeake, Va. –According to Tom Cupitt of Chesapeake Public Schools, the school system needs $9.4 million from the state or cuts will be made.

They are considering cutting middle school sports, adult education, behind-the-wheel drivers’ education and about 30 staff positions.

On Monday, February 25, there will be a public hearing on the proposed operating budget.

There will also be a second hearing on Monday, March 11 which is also the same day as the school board meeting. The final decision will be made then.
