Newport News, Va. –On Wednesday afternoon at around 2:17 p.m., Newport News police say they were told about a gas leak at 44th Street and Washington Avenue in Newport News.
They say a construction crew reportedly struck a gas line while working in the area.
Police have now closed the sidewalk and the roadway between 45th Street and 48th Street on Washington Avenue.
No injuries have been reported. They say the road closure will impact Shipyard traffic during rush hour.
They do not know how long the closure will last.
