Japanese automaker recalls 50,000 ‘zombie cars’

Japanese automaker Subaru says it's recalling its 2013 Crosstrek and several other vehicles because they may start on their own.

Nearly 50,000 vehicles are on this new recall list.

The affected Subarus contain an automatic transmission and an Audiovox remote engine starter.

If the remote engine starter is dropped, the fob may malfunction and randomly transmit an engine start request, even if your car is sitting in a closed garage.

Subaru said that the recall begins at the end of April when owners can get their faulty fobs replaced by dealers free of charge.
