USS Abraham Lincoln moving to Newport News Shipbuilding for overhaul

Posted

Newport News, Va. – The Navy just announced today that the USS Abraham Lincoln will be moving to Huntington Ingalls Newport News Shipbuilding to start the final stages of preparation for refueling and overhaul.

This includes refueling the reactors, repairing and upgrading ship infrastructure and systems, and modernizing the ship and her combat and communication systems.

The Defense Appropriations Bill’s delayed passage caused funds to be held up for six weeks. To cushion the blow from the budget cuts, their currrent contract was continued. Crews were able to continue pierside at Naval Station Norfolk.

They expect to complete the overhaul in November of 2016.
