Update: Norfolk pastor facing child porn charges to resign from church

Update: The Norfolk pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church who has been accused of possessing child pornography, will resign in the next few days. Right now, Smith is on leave pending the investigation according to the Church's website. 

Norfolk, Va. - A Norfolk pastor who was arrested on child pornography charges appeared in court on Monday.

David Smith will now live with his parents and he is not allowed to access a computer or have any communication with children under 16. He is also barred from Trinity Lutheran Church.

Bond was set at $25,000 with surety

Smith testified during the appearance, and he plans to resign from the church in the next few days. He has had counseling in the past, but it was nothing that was rigorous according to his attorney.

Smith has a Preliminary hearing set for May 7th which may be waived.

His attorney says the 35-year-old admitted to having the child pornography when police tried to search his Poquoson home.

Smith has been the pastor at Trinity Lutheran on Granby Street in Norfolk for over two years.

According to the church's website, Smith is on leave, pending the investigation.
