Chesapeake, Va. - It's time for our Student Athlete of the Week - and this week, we have a little twist to our story.

Every December, NewsChannel 3 is proud to present Sounds of the Season. It is the only channel to showcase the area's school choruses. And for Hickory High, one of their singers stands out among the best.

The junior made all-state with her singing, but this is just the beginning of her story.

17-year-old Amanda O'Keefe, the rocker, is the founder and lead singer of the group called "On the Bright Side." The group was started with her drummer and fellow Hickory Hawk, Trevor Davis.

Grassfield graduate, Salvatore Casey, is on the guitar. Her dad, Kevin, and her uncle, Sean are also a part of the group.

Besides being the lead singer, Amanda is also the head songwriter.

There is one particular song that is special to Amanda called "The light in Your
Eyes" which was inspired by her brother, Sean who has autism.

Amanda is also part of the Hickory Hawk Chorus.

The band is currently working on their second CD, and they will be traveling to Pennsylvania for a show. NewsChannel 3 asked Amanda If she could give this all up?

"I couldn't do that - I need to have music in my life."
