A fourth grader at Westhaven Elementary School in Portsmouth was found in possession of six bullets on Monday afternoon.
Portsmouth Police say they received a call from the school around 2:15 p.m. and indicated that the nine-year-old boy was in possession of the ammunition.
The school said the boy had reached into his backpack to retrieve a notebook when the bullets fell onto the floor. Several other students observed the bullets and notified administrators.
Officers met with school administrators and the boy and the bullets were turned over to the officers.
The School Resource Officer is investigating the incident. No charges have been placed on the students on the student at this time. No firearms were found.
