Newport News, Va. – A school bus carrying elementary school students was involved in an accident Tuesday morning, school officials tell NewsChannel 3.

It happened Tuesday morning at 8:55 a.m. According to Michelle Price of Newport News Schools, a bus carrying three Sedgefield Elementary School students was rear-ended by a van.

The bus was stopped in the northbound left turn lane of Jefferson Avenue waiting to turn onto Wilcox lane when it was struck.

The school bus was carrying the driver, the driver assistant and two elementary school students.

The van was carrying the driver and two children.

No injuries were reported.

The students were on their way to school, Price says. As of 9:30 a.m., all of the students were at school or on their way there.

The driver of the van was cited for following too closely.
