Two men killed in I-64 head-on crash in New Kent County

New Kent Co., Va. - Two Chesterfield County men are dead after a head-on vehicle crash.

It happened shortly after 10:30 p.m., April 16, on Interstate 64 westbound at the 223 mile marker in New Kent County.

The driver of a 2004 Honda CRV was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of Interstate 64 and struck the driver of a 1996 Ford Ranger head-on, according to Sergeant Thomas J. Molnar.

Police say both drivers were wearing their safety belts; they died at the scene of the crash. Both were transported to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Richmond.

Interstate 64 westbound was closed until approximately 3:00 a.m. this morning, April 17.

The crash remains under investigation.

The driver of the Honda has been identified as 54-year-old James E. Fred of the 14000 block of Walthall Drive in Chesterfield.

The driver of the Ford has been identified as 47-year-old John J. Keesler of the 6000 block of Husting Road in Chesterfield.
