Virginia Beach, Va. - On Monday, Marcus Brantley pleaded guilty to killing his 14-month-old daughter.
He was charged with second-degree murder and child endangerment. Marcus told officials the baby had fallen and hit her head.
She died a few days after being found unresponsive in her crib back in August.
Court documents showed her head was swollen from a brain bleed and she had multiple skull fractures and bruises.
His wife is an active duty sailor and she was deployed in the Persian Gulf at the time.
Court records show when officials told her about Melanie's death, the mother tried to use one of their guns to kill herself.
Marcus is scheduled to be sentenced in August.
