arahmanVirginia Beach, Va. – Imagine receiving $1,000 per week for the rest of your life.

Ahmed Rahman of Virginia Beach doesn’t need to imagine – it happened.

Rahman won the top prize in the Virginia Lottery’s Win for Life game.

Lottery officials say Dr. Rahman matched the first six numbers in the April 20 Win for Life drawing.

Instead of buying his ticket from a store, he won with a Win for Life subscription. Subscriptions are offered by the Virginia Lottery to give Win for Life and Mega Millions players the opportunity to purchase tickets for multiple drawings through the mail. Unlike other winners, subscribers are contacted directly by the Virginia Lottery when they win a large prize.

“I was driving when I got the call. I had to stop,” he told Virginia Lottery officials. “I thought there might be a problem.”

The winning numbers for that drawing were 5-8-26-28-39-40 and the Free Ball number was 11.

Dr. Rahman, who is a physician, is Virginia’s 40th lifetime winner since Win for Life began in February 2006, and the sixth to win with a subscription. Win for Life drawings are held Wednesday and Saturday nights at 11:00.

The chances of winning the top prize are 1 in 5,245,786. Other prizes in the game range from $2 to $52,000.
