Virginia Beach, Va. – Tallwood High School senior, Kayla Milstead, invited an African tribal leader to the school for her senior project at the Global Studies and World Languages Academy, VBCPS officials tell NewsChannel 3.

On Monday, April 29, Joseph Ole Tipanko, chief and leader of his village tribe of more than 5,000 people in Kenya, spoke to several classes at Tallwood High School.

Tipanko told the students about his village’s culture and its plight to improve tribal life with clean water and advanced educational opportunities for girls, says Yolanda Jones-Howell of Virginia Beach City Public Schools.

The chief sold jewelry made by tribal members to raise funds for his village’s projects.
