Virginia Beach, Va. - A person has died after a car crash in Virginia Beach, police tell NewsChannel 3.
It happened on Tuesday, April 30 at approximately 12:35 a.m.
Police received a report of an accident in the 5100 block of Wesleyan Drive. Police, EMS, and fire crews responded, and found a vehicle that had struck a pole.
Investigators say the victim was traveling westbound on Haygood Road passing Bayside High School. The victim was driving a two-door 1999 Honda Civic, and turned onto Wesleyan Drive. The vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed, police say, when the driver lost control of his vehicle. The vehicle slid across the roadway and struck a light pole on the driver’s side.
The victim was transported to a local hospital and was pronounced dead. A passenger in the vehicle was also transported for serious injuries and remains hospitalized.
The victim has been identified as 32-year-old Jonathan D. Mcabee of the 900 block of E. Ocean View Avenue in Norfolk.
Speed and alcohol are considered factors in this crash.
This case remains under investigation.
