Isle of Wight County – VDOT bridge maintenance crews have scheduled multiple test lifts at the Route 17 James River Bridge beginning Wednesday, May 8, and continuing through Friday, May 10.
Motorists should expect at least two test lifts to occur each day between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., with each lift expected to last approximately 20 minutes.
The lifts are necessary to test the two standby diesel generators that were recently installed.
After the test openings, crews will reopen the bridge to traffic. VDOT attempts to schedule maintenance during travel periods when traffic volumes are lower, to reduce impact to motorists.
