Raccoon tests positive for rabies in Newport News neighborhood

Newport News, Va. – A resident is being treated after coming into contact with a raccoon that tested positive for rabies in the Newmarket area of Newport News.

Officials say the resident was exposed in the area between Briarfield Road and Mercury Blvd.

The victim told authorities that the raccoon appeared sick and the animal was submitted for testing.
