Two injured in Norfolk industrial accident

Norfolk, Va. - Two construction workers were injured at the site of the Old Library on Plume Street on Monday afternoon.

Norfolk Fire-Rescue responded to the report of the two males trapped in the basement around 2:00 p.m.

steelFire crews and members of the Norfolk Fire-Rescue Technical Rescue Team entered the basement and found the two males in their 50s with minor injuries conscious and alert.

According to Norfolk Fire-Rescue, the men were working on a steel support plate for a doorway when it fell and injured them.

The approximately 700-pound support plate landed against a doorway and rested there.

Both men were transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital for further evaluation. Neither sustained any life-threatening injuries.
