Virginia Beach, Va.- A community meeting in the Green Run section of Virginia Beach was being held Thursday night to address progress in the area and future plans for Green Run.

Green Run Homes Association Community Manager Heidi Daniels says a group of community leaders has taken action over the past year and a half to improve the area.

One big area they want to partner with the city on is programming for youth.

"One thing that we needed and highly felt that we needed was youth. We need youth programs in Green Run. We do not have a recreation center and the ones that are nearby aren’t easily accessible by our youth," Daniels explained.

They are working to offer more events for youth, including a pool party in June.

Crime has been a concern for Green Run over the years and Daniels says it will take the community working together with police to keep it from increasing.

"We have to be able to sustain that decrease in crime though and it’s going to be neighbors looking out for neighbors," Daniels explained. "We need to come together as a community."
