UPDATE: On July 28th, 2014, Kendal Jeream Romer was sentenced to 43 years in prison with 19 of those suspended for the murder of his wife, Mattiele Romer.
Romer will serve 24 years behind bars. This was the maximum under the plea agreement.
He pleaded guilty to the murder back in April of this year.
Police say on May 19th, 2013, Romer killed his wife in their apartment in Virginia Beach.
Documents say there was a dispute over faithfulness and a discussion about divorce. Documents say Romer shot his wife twice and left her body in the bathtub. He then called his Navy supervisor and went to his home with his 4-year-old daughter.
He gave the supervisor his gun and asked him to watch his daughter until family arrived because he planned to turn himself in to police.
He did so later that day.
Virginia Beach, Va. – A suspicious death in Virginia Beach has now been ruled a homicide.
Investigators were called out to the 1400 block of Cape Ann Way, off of Holland Road around 4:45 p.m. Sunday afternoon, regarding a suspicious death.
Police officers forced entry into the home and found a female victim suffering from a gunshot wound. EMS also responded to the scene, and the victim was pronounced deceased.
The victim is identified as 23-year-old Mattiele Romer of the 1400 block of Cape Ann Way in Virginia Beach.
Detectives say the suspect and victim are married.
The suspect is identified as 25-year-old Kendal Jeream Romer, of the 1400 block of Cape Ann Way. He has been charged with Murder and Use of a Firearm. He is currently being held in the Virginia Beach Correctional Center without bond.
