Virginia Beach, Va.- The Virginia Beach SPCA is now caring for a dog and her 9 puppies after they say a man was trying to illegally hand them out for free in the parking lot of the facility on Tuesday afternoon.
The puppies were 10 days old and in Virginia, it is illegal to give, sell or trade any animal under six weeks. Staff at the SPCA say the mother had a temperature of 104 degrees and was thin and hungry. The puppies had fevers of 103 degrees and were in a waste basket.
The SPCA took action and confronted the man and a person who accepted one of the puppies. He gave the puppies to the staff and they are now doing well.
