Hampton, Va. – A dog was shot in the neck after police say it attacked an officer in Hampton on Tuesday night.

Police were called out to West Pembroke Avenue to respond to a dispute between two roommates. As the officers were talking to people outside about the incident, they say an 80-pound boxer got out of the back door and charged toward the officers.

The officers ran away and the dog bit one of the officers on the ankle. That’s when the officer shot the dog in the neck.

Police say the dog’s injuries are non-life threatening.

Charges are pending against the owner of the dog.
