The Steel Pier Classic is a professional and amateur surfing contest. It is the largest longboard event on the east coast.
The name is part of a tribute to the old Virginia Beach steel pier that was near First Street. The event has approximately 400 competitors.
Surfers will compete for a total purse of more than $13,000. It runs all weekend long.
