Suspect sought in early morning shooting in Newport News

Newport News, Va. – Newport News Police are currently searching for a suspect wanted for shooting a 34-year-old man in the legs around 5:20 a.m. Tuesday morning.

Police responded to the 13200 block of Sojourner Court to reports of gunshots in the area.

When they arrived, they found the 34-year-old victim lying on the sidewalk suffering from gunshot wounds to both legs.

The victim told officers he was asleep on the couch at a friend’s residence when he was awakened by a man with a gun, demanding money.

The suspect then shot the man in both legs before leaving.

The suspect is described as a black man, about 30-years-old, approximately 5’8” with short facial hair on his chin.

The victim was transported to a local hospital with what appears to be non life-threatening injuries.
