Newport News, Va. – A Newport News woman has been charged with DUI and multiple child neglect charges after she crashed her car with three children and her mother inside.
Newport News Police say 30-year-old Shamia Hawkins struck another car on June 7th on Orcutt Ave. When officers arrived Hawkins said the other vehicle had cut her off, struck her head-on and then crashed down the road.
Witnesses reported that the car was parked and unoccupied when Hawkins’ car struck it, knocking it onto its drivers’ side. Police noticed alcohol on her breath and arrested her.
Hawkins’ mother, her 8-and-6-year-old daughters and her 10-year-old niece were riding with her in the car.
