Virginia Beach, Va. – The Virginia Beach City Public Schools Planetarium, located on Plaza Middle School’s campus, is holding a community celebration Tuesday, June 25, in honor of its grand reopening.

The celebration will begin at 6:30 p.m. and feature a free show on the planetarium’s new projection system.

This will be the first open community program since the planetarium closed last fall for renovations. Visitors to the upgraded planetarium will experience a brand new projector system, which enhances the program experience by combining astronomy simulation software with full dome projection capability to provide for brighter and more precise imagery.

In addition, the planetarium’s massive dome has been repainted to allow for the most optimal viewing. Visitors will also enjoy a newly painted mural that encircles the dome as well as new models in the planetarium’s entry.

Beginning July 2, community shows will be available every Tuesday night at 7 p.m. with a charge of $3 a person.
