Newport News, Va. – On Friday June 14, 2013 at 10:30 am the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility will conduct a test of its tornado warning siren.

The siren should be heard be anyone within a 1.5 mile radius of the lab which is located at 12000 Jefferson Ave, depending on weather conditions

The siren is used to notify members of the facility that are working outside to “take cover” in the event of a tornado and tornado warnings.

The Jefferson Lab plans to carry out the test from 30 seconds to three minutes; the siren will be a wavering tone also known as high-low-high or 10-4-10.

Jefferson Lab is one of 10 national research laboratories funded by the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Science. It is managed and operated for the DOE by Jefferson Science Associates, LLC.
