James City County, Va. - Graduation parties are a summertime staple, but things turned violent for a family in James City County after uninvited party crashers showed up.

"The party had got interrupted, someone was shooting and police were out. It was just crazy,” says Belinda Davis who told NewsChannel 3 her next door neighbors were hosting the party this past Saturday.

At around 1 a.m., police say several unwelcomed guests arrived.

Police say the family throwing the party asked the uninvited guests to leave and that`s when neighbors say an argument started and gunfire followed.

No one was hurt and police say they never found any shells.

The family has parties often and there has never been an issue before, according to neighbors.

“They have lots of parties, and there`s never usually any trouble, let alone shooting. They never even have fights or anything. It`s just good, organized fun with no problems, but this time it was really, really unusual,” says Davis.

Police say they don't have any leads on who fired the shots, but for the typically quiet area in James City County, Davis thinks it couldn't have been someone who lives on the street.

“I`m pretty sure it was an outsider. Don`t know for sure, but I’m almost positive it was an outsider. The people here are really good and quiet and peaceful people. Sometimes you just get outsiders that come in here and just don`t know how to act,” says Davis.

Police are asking anyone with information to take action and call the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
