Newport News, Va. - A man is lucky to be alive thanks to the heroic actions of a Newport News deputy. The man was dangling from the 9th floor balcony of a high rise complex in Newport News when the deputy sprung into action to save him.
Witnesses saw the man on the balcony on Tuesday afternoon including Deputy Ricardo Donato, who was off-duty at the time. As soon as he heard the screaming, he ran to help.
Donato grabbed the man by his waistline and belt and pulled him to safety.
Officials are not sure why the man was dangling from the balcony.
For his quick heroic actions, Donato was given a letter from the property manager thanking him.
