Suffolk, Va. – A 25-year-old Suffolk mom is charged with abuse and neglect and cruelty to children after police say they found her young children, ages 2 and 3, at home alone living in filthy conditions.

Following a tip from someone saying that the kids had been left home alone on several occasions, police went out to a unit in Heritage Acres Apartments on Nansemond Parkway.

When they knocked on the door, they say the 3-year-old answered and they could see the 2-year-old nearby. They also saw bug infestation and food on the floors.

They tried to see if an adult was home, but there was no response. Lakeisha Danielle Myrick, the mother, returned home shortly afterward and was then charged on June 23rd.

Officers say when they went into the home, they saw bug infestation and food on the floor.

The children are now with their grandmother. Child Protective Services is now involved.
