About 5, 400 customers were without power on the Outer Banks due to an equipment failure on Wednesday.
Daisy Pridgen with Dominion Power tells NewsChannel 3 there was a problem with an underwater cable.
The outage started at around 4:30 p.m. and crews are still trying to restore service incrementally.
They hope to have everyone restored by 1 a.m.
