Virginia Beach, Va. – The Red Star Tavern closed its doors on Wednesday.
A sign was posted on the restaurant indicating that it was closed by the treasurer of the city for non-payment of taxes.
John Atkinson, the treasurer for Virginia Beach, told NewsChannel 3 that Red Star owes over $43,000 in property taxes and city sales taxes.
The company had been making payments, but it was not enough Atkinson says. This has been going on for several years.
Other Red Star Tavern locations also closed for not paying their bills.
In December of 2010, a Denver location closed for not paying taxes, a Louisville restaurant closed for not paying their rent. Another location in Newport News was delinquent on taxes but this did not cause their closing.
